August 17 (SeeNews) - Serbia plans to start the reimunisation of citizens with a third dose of COVID-19 vaccines after the rapid rise of coronavirus cases in the country, it said on Tuesday.
The third dose will be given to people who were revaccinated at least six months ago and to citizens on immunosuppressive therapy and those suffering from immunodeficiency diseases, as well as people older than 70, Mirsad Djerlek, state secretary at the health ministry, said.
Citizens can choose between four vaccines that are registered in Serbia, Djerlek said.
Serbia has fully vaccinated more than 50% of its population so far, he added.
The number of new coronavirus cases exceeded 1,000 a day over the weekend, according to data from Serbia's health ministry. A total of 868 COVID-19 patients were hospitalised as of August 16.
