February 8 (SeeNews) - Serbia plans to start the construction of the Sombor-Kikinda high-speed road that would stretch from the country's border with Hungary to the border with Romania in the first half of this year, the government of Vojvodina autonomous province said.
The construction of the 175 km-long road in Serbia's north linking the Backi Breg crossing at the border with Hungary to the Nakovo crossing at the border with Romania is expected to take two to three years, the head of the Vojvodina provincial government, Igor Mirovic, said in a press release.
The project worth an estimated 835 million euro ($896 million) road was expected to begin in 2021.
"This road will provide new investments, new jobs, support the development of tourism and will provide the fastest connection between Romania and Hungary," said Serbia's transport minister, Goran Vesic.
