October 11 (SeeNews) - Serbia's prime minister Ana Brnabic said she expects the country to open more chapters in its membership negotiations with the European Union by the end of this year.
The opening of new chapters will give a positive signal to the administration and citizens of Serbia, as they are working hard on the EU integration process, Brnabic said as quoted in a statement by the Serbian government on Tuesday.
Serbia has made a significant progress in its economic reforms and now it is time to focus on the rule of law, which should be strengthened to make the judiciary system more transparent, efficient and predictable, Brnabic said after a meeting with the EU commissioner for European neighbourhood policy and enlargement negotiations, Johannes Hahn, in Brussels.
Earlier this week, Serbia's European integration minister Jadranka Joksimovic said she expects the country to open five more chapters in its membership negotiations with the EU by the end of this year.
The five chapters that could be opened are Chapter 6 - Company Law, Chapter 30 - External Relations, Chapter 33 - Financial & Budgetary Provisions, Chapter 9 - Financial Services and Chapter 13 - Fisheries, Joskimovic said in an interview for Serbian daily Srpski telegraf on Monday.
