January 25 (SeeNews) - Serbia will launch the construction of a bypass road connecting the Milos Veliki motorway, part of European transport Corridor XI, and the industrial zone of its western city of Valjevo, the city mayor, Lazar Gojkovic, said.
The 2.2 km bypass road will link the industrial zone with the Iverak-Lajkovac high-speed road, a statement by the infrastructure ministry quoted Gojkovic as saying on Saturday. For its part, the Iverak-Lajkovac section is to link the city with Milos Veliki motorway.
"We are currently in the phase of choosing a strategic partner," the mayor said.
In the next phase of the project, the city plans to link the Iverak-Lajkovac section with the city's southern bypass, he added.
Milos Veliki motorway is a part of European transport Corridor XI, a ferry/motorway corridor which will connect Italy's Bari to Romania's Bucharest via Montenegro's Bar port and Serbia's Belgrade.
On Serbian territory, the Milos Veliki motorway will be approximately 258 km long, linking Belgrade and the Boljare border crossing with Montenegro.
