October 21 (SeeNews) - Serbia's government plans to subsidise flights linking Morava airport in Kraljevo to Vienna and Thessaloniki, the Serbian infrastructure ministry has said.
The government plans to pick a company to operate the flights three times a week, the infrastructure ministry said in a statement on Friday.
The Kraljevo-Vienna flights are scheduled to be launched on December 1 and the contract for subsidising the service will expire on December 31, 2021. The flights to Thessaloniki will be seasonal and will be operated between March 10 and October 15, in 2020 and 2021, the ministry said.
Morava airport opened for international civil aviation operations in July. The government has invested 8.5 million euro ($9.5 million) in the overhaul of the Morava military airport, enabling the handling of flights of ATR-72 and Boeing 737 aircraft.
The airport in central Serbia is operated by Aerodromi Srbije, a newly established state-owned company that started operations in the first half of February.
