BELGRADE (Serbia), May 14 (SeeNews) – Serbia's government plans to launch an energy efficiency fund for households next year, energy minister Aleksandar Antic said on Thursday.
The government will complete the establishment of the fund this year with the support of the European Commission and the first energy efficiency projects will be financed in 2021, Antic said in a video file posted on the website of public broadcaster RTS.
"The role of this fund will be primarily to co-finance and support the execution of energy efficiency projects - insulation, carpentry, thermo-technical segments of buildings, but also the procurement of energy-efficient appliances for households," Antic said.
The government plans to provide 500 million dinars ($4.6 million/4.3 million euro) for energy efficiency projects in 2020, which will be mainly used to support projects of local governments.
"We have defined energy efficiency as a new source of energy because we deeply believe that by saving in energy consumption we can provide for the missing or future energy needs for Serbia," Antic said.
According to Serbian media reports, the fund will be financed from energy efficiency fees paid by citizens and will be launched with assets worth 20 million euro ($21.6 million).
