April 22 (SeeNews) - Serbia's government plans to invest between 50 million euro ($56.2 million) and 70 million euro in the construction of a national stadium in Belgrade, local media reported.
The national stadium will be located in Belgrade's neighbourhood of Surcin, at a 4 km distance from Belgrade Nikola Tesla international airport, Vecernje Novosti daily quoted the mayor of Surcin, Stevan Susa, as saying on Friday.
The stadium will be built on a plot of land owned by agricultural company PKB, which was excluded from the privatisation of the company's assets, Susa said.
"Although the land is arable, it was chosen due to its excellent location. All those who come to the games will reach the stadium via a motorway, and there will be a special access road to the stadium," said Susa.
The multi-use stadium will have a seating capacity of 60,000 and will have a four- or five-star Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) category, Vecernje Novosti said.
Four countries in Southeast Europe - Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia and Greece - plan to submit joint hosting bids for both UEFA Euro 2028 championship and FIFA World Cup 2030, Serbian president Aleksandar Vucic said in November.
Government officials of the four countries signed a memorandum of understanding earlier this month to establish a joint organising committee to prepare the bid.
