March 29 (SeeNews) - Serbia's state-owned company Infrastruktura Zeleznice Srbije plans to invest 2.5 billion dinars ($23.8 million/21.2 million euro) in the reconstruction of the Subotica-Senta railway line, it said.
Infrastruktura Zeleznice Srbije intends to launch the reconstruction of the 38.5 kilometre-long railway line in northern Serbia on April 1, the company said in an e-mailed statement on Thursday.
The reconstruction will enable maximum train speed of 80 km/h, compared to 30 km/h at present.
In September, the city governments of Subotica and Kikinda, as well as the municipalities of Senta, Coka and Kanjiza have signed an agreement to subsidise the transport of passengers on the railway line, the company said.
Infrastruktura Zeleznice Srbije was established as a joint stock company in 2015 as part of a reorganisation programme implemented in railway operator Zeleznice Srbije which saw the uncoupling of activities into separate companies.
