March 28 (SeeNews) - The Serbian government said on Tuesday that it plans to increase electricity and natural gas prices for households by 8% and 10%, respectively, as of May 1, in line with its commitments under a stand-by arrangement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
The move will translate into an average increase by around 250 dinars ($2.31/2.13 euro) of the monthly electricity bills of consumers, the government said in a press release.
The current price of electricity is 8.796 dinars per KWh, according to data from the Energy Agency of Serbia.
The current price of gas is 3.79 dinars per KWh, according to data from state-owned monopoly Srbijagas.
Serbia's annual consumer price inflation sped up to 16.1% in February, from 15.8% in January, the national statistical office said earlier this month.
