June 21 (SeeNews) - Serbia hopes to complete the eastern section of pan-European Corridor X linking Nis to the Bulgarian border this summer, infrastructure minister Zorana Mihajlovic said.
During a visit to the construction site on Thursday, Mihajlovic criticised the slow pace of works on Bancarevo-Crvena Reka, the last stretch of the section, built by Greek civil engineering company Aktor, but expressed hope that the project will be completed this summer, the Serbian government said in a statement.
The Serbian government considers the eastern section of the motorway to be equally important as the southern section, which was opened for traffic last month, Mihajlovic said.
In May, Serbia completed the construction of the entire southern section of the motorway of European transport Corridor X on its territory to the border of North Macedonia.
The road section construction is being financed by the European Investment Bank (EIB), according to data from the corporate website of state-owned motorway construction company Koridori Srbije.
Corridor X will connect Salzburg in Austria to the Greek port of Thessaloniki, passing through Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia and Macedonia. In Serbia, the project includes the Belgrade bypass motorway, as well as two separate sections, linking Nis to Levosoje, near the border with Macedonia, to the south, and to the border with Bulgaria to the east.
