BELGRADE (Serbia), April 19 (SeeNews) – Serbia's infrastructure minister Zorana Mihajlovic said on Wednesday the government aims to increase the share of construction industry in the country's gross domestic product (GDP) to 7% from the current 5% in the next two years.
The government pays special attention to the domestic construction industry and companies can apply for working on projects worth more than 970 million euro ($1.04 billion), Mihajlovic said during the opening of the International Building Trade Fair in Belgrade, according to a statement issued by the ministry.
The state has provided money and created conditions for construction projects and Serbian companies should seize this opportunity, Mihajlovic said.
"The Western Balkans and Southeastern Europe (SEE) can develop only if we work together. Therefore, we want to see even more new construction sites and jobs not only in Serbia but in the entire region," she added.
Mihajlovic said earlier this month that the government plans to invest 400 million euro in the rehabilitation of 220 km of roads.
