April 1 (SeeNews) - Serbia has confirmed seven more deaths from the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) on its territory, bringing the death toll to23, while the total number of infected people rose to 900 as of March 31, the director of Belgrade's infectious diseases clinic, Goran Stevanovic, said.
"This is the worst day for Serbia for now, and I am afraid that even worse days are yet to come," Stevanovic said in a video file posted on the website of news agency Tanjug on Tuesday.
A total of 115 new cases of COVID-19 were reported on Tuesday, the Serbian health ministry said in a separate statement.
"This is the result of disrespecting the measures we have begging to be obeyed. If we continue to act so irresponsibly, we will be getting closer to the scenario of Spain and Italy. There is no health system in the world that will be able to cope with such a large number of patients and we will not be able to help our fellow citizens," Stevanovic said.
Health minister Zlatibor Loncar announced the first case of COVID-19 in the country on March 6.
