April 30 (SeeNews) - Serbia is ready to reopen its airports for regular commercial flights on May 18 after a two-month long closure introduced to limit the spread of the coronavirus disease, infrastructure minister Zorana Mihajlovic said.
The airports in Belgrade, Nis and Kraljevo will be reopened on May 18 if the European Union opens its borders by that date, Mihajlovic said in a press release on Wednesday.
The public intercity transport in Serbia will be relaunched on May 4, while the urban transport in Belgrade and Nis will resume operations on May 8, Mihajlovic said.
Earlier this week, Hungarian low-cost carrier Wizz Air enabled the sale of tickets for its flights linking Belgrade to London Luton airport as of May 1. Currently, the first available date for the service is May 13, according to company data.
The government closed Serbia's main airports, in Belgrade and Nis, in order to tackle the coronavirus outbreak on March 19.
Flag carrier Air Serbia suspended all passenger flights on March 20. At present, the first available date for the purchase of tickets for Air Serbia flights is May 18.
