March 28 (SeeNews) - Serbia's government is considering the introduction of incentives for the acquisition of electric and hybrid vehicles as of 2020, environment minister Goran Trivan has said.
"There has been no space in the budget for such a move this year but the prime minister is ready to negotiate it and I believe it would be possible next year," Trivan said in a video file posted on the website of news agency Tanjug on Wednesday.
Moreover, the government is considering a ban on the import of cars with European emission standard of Euro 3, Trivan said.
Serbia is one of the few European countries that still have no incentives or subsidies for the purchase of electric or hybrid vehicles.
The introduction of the incentives for the purchase of electric vehicles is one of the 13 measures defined in the Programme for the Implementation of the Energy Sector Development Strategy of Serbia for the period 2017-2023.
