August 23 (SeeNews) - Serbia's president Aleksandar Vucic and Macedonian prime minister Zoran Zaev agreed on Wednesday to settle all possible issues between Belgrade and Skopje through dialogue, easing the tensions between the two countries.
"Serbia and Macedonia will intensify bilateral communication at the highest level, support each other on their European path and strengthen good neighbourly relations to contribute to the stability of the region," Vucic and Zaev said in a joint statement following a telephone conversation on the recent straining of relations between the two countries.
The two countries will put in more efforts to improve their economic relations and will protect the rights and interests of diplomatic and consular missions on their territories, Vucic and Zaev said.
Earlier this week, Serbia's government said it has called back the entire staff of the country's embassy in Skopje after reports that the Macedonian government plans to vote in support of Kosovo's membership of the UN cultural agency UNESCO.
Serbian media quoted Zaev as saying on Tuesday that his government has never given instructions to carry out any counter-intelligence activities against or on behalf of any neighbouring country, including Serbia.
Serbia does not recognise the independence of Kosovo.
