December 2 (SeeNews) - A newly-built biomass heating plant powered by biomass and gas opened in Gornji MIlanovac, in central Serbia, the environment ministry said.
“The commissioning of this power station means that crude oil will be replaced by biomass as a more environment-friendly energy source with zero sulphur emissions,” environment minister Irena Vujovic said, as quoted in a press release by the ministry on Thursday.

In October, a biomass heating plant was launched in Novi Pazar.
By 2025, the largest potential of Serbia's renewable energy sources lies in biomass and totals 3.4 tonnes oil equivalent per year, according to data from the Association Renewable Energy Sources of Serbia.
