March 21 (SeeNews) - The European Union said on Wednesday no progress was achieved during the meeting of Serbian and Kosovo government representatives within the EU facilitated dialogue for the normalisation of ties.
The chief negotiators from Belgrade and Pristina, Marko Djuric and Avni Arifi, met in Brussels from March 19 to 21, but despite the thorough discussions, no further progress was achieved, the EU External Action Service said in a statement.
"The EU calls on both sides to intensify their efforts on the implementation work, recalling that progress in the normalisation of relations is a key element on their respective European paths," the EU External Action Service said.
The talks focused on the establishment of a community of Serb municipalities in Kosovo, energy issues, the construction of a new bridge in Kosovska Mitrovica, freedom of movement and integrated management of border crossings.
Belgrade does not recognise the independence of Kosovo, its former province predominantly populated by ethnic Albanians. Kosovo unilaterally proclaimed independence from Serbia in February 2008 and has so far been recognised by more than half of the 193 UN member states.
