BELGRADE (Serbia), February 28 (SeeNews) – Serbia's infrastructure ministry has invited bids for the preparation of technical documentation for expansion of the river port of Prahovo.
The expansion should allow for the transhipment and storage of at least 2 million tonnes of bulk and general cargo, which will make the Danube port eligible for inclusion in the Core TEN-T river port network, the infrastructure ministry said in a notice on Thursday.
The project also includes the construction of a terminal for the reception, treatment and disposal of marine oil, waste and wastewater, which will significantly improve the environmental protection of the Danube.
The estimated value of the public procurement project is 30 million dinars ($281,000/255,000 euro) and the deadline for the submission of bids is March 27.
In November, the European Investment Bank (EIB) agreed to provide a 100 million euro ($110 million) loan to Serbia to improve navigation on the inland waterways along the Danube and Sava rivers. More than 200 million euro will be invested into a number of projects, starting 2019, including the construction of the bulk and general cargo terminal at the port of Smederevo, a network of hydro-meteorological stations along the Danube and Sava rivers, the rehabilitation of river locks and the removal of World War Two wrecks from the Danube near the port of Prahovo, the EIB said.
