May 26 (SeeNews) - Serbia's is investing a total of 11 million euro ($11.8 million) in the new terminal building at Nis Airport which is under construction, infrastructure minister Goran Vesic said.
Building permits for a new control tower and the reconstruction of the runway have also been obtained, Vesic said, as seen in a video file posted on the YouTube channel of Serbia's parliament on Thursday.
"Since the reconstruction of the old building is impossible, we have to build a new one in its place. Once the new terminal is complete, we will have capacity for 1.5 million passengers per year at Nis," said Vesic.
The government took over the management of Nis Airport in 2018, and has invested more than 700 million dinars ($6.4 million/6 million euro) in the airport since then, added Vesic.
In 2022, the airport served 389,022 passengers, up from 146,296 in 2021.
