November 7 (SeeNews) - Serbia's government is in talks for the launch of a research and development (R&D) centre of Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba in the country, prime minister Ana Brnabic has said.
Alibaba plans to launch its Alipay platform in Serbia in the following months and the government intends to continue discussions about opening R&D centers in Serbia, Brnabic said in a press release on Wednesday, following a meeting with the CEO of Alibaba, Zhang Yong, in Hangzhou, China.
The next step in the cooperation with Alibaba would be the opening of a logistics centre in Serbia, Brnabic added.
In 2018, Alibaba presented a plan for investments in R&D in several areas of computing technology. The company will focus its efforts on developing quantum processors, CTO Jeff Zhang said in September 2018.
Alibaba’s businesses includes core commerce, cloud computing, digital media and entertainment, innovation initiatives and others. In 2014, the company closed the world’s biggest IPO, raising $25 billion (21.4 billion euro) on the New York Stock Exchange.
