June 22 (SeeNews) - Serbia's energy minister Aleksandar Antic has said he expects the upcoming mission of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to give a positive assessment of the government efforts to restructure the country's energy sector.
The results which the government will report to the IMF are good and in line with the fiscal consolidation plan, Antic said in a video file posted on the website of Serbian news agency Tanjug on Wednesday.
One of the advantages is that Serbia carries out the restructuring of power utility Elektroprovreda Srbije (EPS) and natural gas distributor Srbijagas in partnership with the World Bank, Antic added.
The energy ministry will hold a meeting with IMF representatives on June 30, Antic said.
An IMF mission will start a visit to Serbia during June 22-July 4 to assess its economy and conduct the seventh review of the country's IMF-supported funding programme, the Fund said on Monday.
"The mission will have two principal tasks. First, to conduct surveillance of the Serbian economy under Article IV of the IMF’s Articles of Agreement. This surveillance is a central element of the IMF’s mandate for all its member countries and takes a comprehensive and longer-term view of macroeconomic developments and prospects, and the authorities’ economic policies," the IMF said.
The second task of the mission will be to conduct the seventh review of Serbia’s funding programme supported by the IMF. As with previous reviews, the mission will consider past programme performance and implementation as well as seek agreement on policies looking forward.
