Serbia expects 250 mln euro damage to tourism from coronavirus in Jan-May Rasim Ljajic

BELGRADE (Serbia), March 27 (SeeNews) – Serbia expects its tourism industry to suffer damage of up to 250 million euro ($275 million) in the first five months of 2020 as a result of the coronavirus crisis, trade minister Rasim Ljajic said on Friday.

The inflow of foreign currency from tourist services for the period between January and May will decline by 220-250 million euro due to the coronavirus outbreak, Ljajic said in a statement.

Serbia's tourism sector expected to register its best season since 1989 this year, as the tourist numbers rose by 21% year-on-year in the first two months of 2020, but now all bookings until June have been cancelled, Ljajic said.

Serbia's foreign currency revenue from tourist services amounted to 1.4 billion euro, Ljajic said in December
