BELGRADE (Serbia), December 12 (SeeNews) – Serbian state-owned power grid operator Elektromreza Srbije said it has completed the construction of a 400 kilovolt interconnector from the Serbian city of Nis to the Macedonian border worth 33.5 million euro ($44.9 million).
The construction of the 141 kilometer Nis-Leskovac-Vranje-Macedonian border power line was financed with 30 million euro provided by the European Union and 3.5 million euro from the company’s own funds, Elektromreza said in a statement last week.
Serbia launched the construction of the interconnector in 2008. The project aims to ensure high-quality and stable power supply in Serbia's southeast.
Details on the Macedonian component of the project were not provided.
Macedonian state-owned company MEPSO said earlier this year it plans to invest 82.5 million euro in its power transmission network by 2020 that will include the construction of three power transmission lines connecting Macedonia with Serbia, Kosovo and Albania.
