August 22 (SeeNews) - Serbia has completed the revamp of the first two of a total of six MiG-29 fighter jets donated by Russia last year, the Serbian defence ministry has said.
The rehabiltation of the fighter jets is carried out in Serbia by a joint team of Serbian and Russian engineers, the ministry quoted Serbian president Aleksandar Vucic as saying in a statement on Tuesday.
In the next 12 to 14 months, Serbia also expects to receive three Mi-35 helicopters acquired from Russia, Vucic added.
In December 2016, the Serbian government said Russia had agreed to donate six MiG-29 fighter jets to Serbia's Air Force. Moscow had also agreed to extend to 14 years the service life of the Serbian Air Force fleet of MiG-29s, including the donated aircraft.
Serbia's defence ministry said last year the government plans to overhaul domestically the six MiG-29 jets at the Moma Stanojlovic aeronautical plant.
