March 13 (SeeNews) - Serbia's government has temporarily closed the Morava airport in Kraljevo as part of measures to curb the spread of the coronavirus infection, state-run airport operator Aerodromi Srbije said.

The government has closed the border crossing at Morava airport as of March 12, Aerodromi Srbije said in a statement on Thursday.

Earlier this week, the government barred all indoor gatherings and closed some small border crossings to stem the spread of the coronavirus infection, Aerodromi Srbije noted.

In November, flag carrier Air Serbia signed an agreement with the government to launch subsidised flights from Morava Airport to Vienna and Thessaloniki. The Vienna flights were launched in December, while the Thessaloniki service was scheduled to start on March 31.

Morava Airport opened for international civil aviation operations in July. The government has invested 8.5 million euro ($9.4 million) in the overhaul of the Morava military airport to ensure the handling of flights of ATR-72 and Boeing 737 aircraft.

Serbia has confirmed 31 cases of the coronavirus infection as of Friday. The first case was reported by health minister Zlatibor Loncar on March 6.
