BELGRADE (Serbia), January 12 (SeeNews) – Serbia's government plans to set up a joint venture with China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) for the construction of an industrial park in Belgrade's suburb of Borca, the minister without portfolio in charge of innovation, Nenad Popovic, said.
A joint venture will be set up with CNBC in the short term to start construction works on the project by the end of this year, Popovic said in a statement on Thursday.
Serbia aims to develop the industrial parks concept under the Chinese model, as innovation is a strategic target of the government policy, Popovic said during a meeting with China's ambassador to Serbia, Li Manchang, according to the statement.
The Balkan country has the potential to become a regional innovation hub in the framework of China's Belt and Road initiative, Popovic said.
The Serbian government said in October it plans to invest some 300 million euro ($362.2 million) in the construction of the industrial park together with CRBC. Construction works will be financed by the Export-Import Bank of China, China Construction Bank and China Development Bank.
