BELGRADE (Serbia), March 29 (SeeNews) – Serbia's infrastructure minister Zorana Mihajlovic said on Wednesday the construction of the road section of European Transport Corridor X in the country, linking Nis with the Bulgarian border, can be completed by the end of the year.
Last month, Serbia's infrastructure ministry said that Greek civil engineering group Aktor's plans to catch up on delays in the construction of parts of Nis-Dimitrovgrad motorway are unsatisfactory.
The ministry has nothing against the execution of additional works by some of the companies and considers that the completion of Corridor X road section in Serbia by the end of 2017 is possible, Mihajlovic said, as quoted in a statement by the ministry.
Aktor is building the Prosek-Crvena Reka, Crvena Reka-Ciflik, Stanicenje-Pirot sections and Dimitrovgrad bypass of the Nis-Dimitrovgrad motorway, but has completed a little more than half of the works so far, Mihajlovic said in February.
"Serbia wants to be intertwined with motorways because each type of connection in our country can bring progress," Mihalovic said.
Corridor X will connect Salzburg in Austria to the Greek port of Thessaloniki, passing through Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia and Macedonia.
In Serbia, the project includes the construction of a Belgrade bypass motorway, as well as two separate sections, linking Nis to Merdare and the border with Bulgaria.
