October 5 (SeeNews) - All four Romanian bourse indices extended their gains on Friday largely on the back of lively trading and appreciation in several second-tier companies, brokers said.
The composite BET-C index was the biggest gainer among the four indices, adding 2.16% to 7,020.31 points, thanks to heavy trading with the stock of car parts manufacturer Compa, fertilizer maker Amonil and electric equipment maker Electroaparataj.
The Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB) blue-chip BET index closed up 1.19% at 10,253.08 points, and the ROTX index of Romania's nine most liquid stocks, a joint index of the BVB and the Vienna Stock Exchange, rose 1.27% to 22,489.39.
The BET-FI index, which tracks the shares of the country's regionally-defined investment funds (SIFs), closed 1.53% higher at 84,156.12 points. The BVB's overall volume was 99.4 million shares on turnover of 57.8 million lei ($24.2 million/17.2 million euro), down from Thursday’s 64.4 million lei.
“The gains are very good indeed but I would reserve my judgment and say that this is a new upward trend,” one broker told SeeNews. "We need a few more consecutive positive trading sessions for that."
SIF 5 Oltenia gained 1.55% to 4.60 lei in the highest turnover, 7.2 million lei, while SIF 2 Moldova added 0.82% to 3.68 lei in the second highest turnover of 5.1 million lei. SIF 1 Banat Crisana inched up 0.27% to 3.78 lei in the day's third largest turnover, of 5.1 million lei.
Oil refiner Rompetrol Rafinare was the most traded blue-chip, closing 1.69% up at 0.12 lei in turnover of 3.3 million lei, while blue-chip bank BRD ended unchanged at 26.7 lei in 3.2 million lei of turnover. Blue-chip oil and gas group Petrom gained 2.83% to 0.545 lei in 2.3 million lei turnover.
Last week the BVB introduced futures contracts on its BET-FI index after launching futures on its blue-chip BET index in mid-September.
Three end-December BET futures contracts traded on Friday in a combined turnover of 30,600 lei. They ended up 0.49% higher at 10,034.00. The futures lost 0.7% to 10,200.00. Another four end-December BET-FI futures contracts traded in a combined turnover of 17,000 lei, ending 6.25% higher at 85,000.00.
Rasdaq-C, the composite index of the over-the-counter market RASDAQ, added 0.81% at 5,423.17. Turnover on the RASDAQ rose to 17.4 million, from Thursday’s 16.4 million.
Construction company Edil Constructii was the most traded stock on the RASDAQ on Friday, slumping 47.84% to 1.09 lei in turnover of 2.3 million lei. The broker could not give a reason for the sharp fall.
