November 15 (SeeNews) - Bosnia and Herzegovina's Sarajevo International Airport has launched a tender for air carriers to open a base and launch new services from the airport in 2023, it said.
Preference will be given to bidders which plan to launch most new flights from the airport in the Bosnian capital and intend to expand their operations in 2024 and 2025, the Sarajevo Airport said in a statement on Monday.
The bidding deadline is 45 days from the announcement.
Hungarian low-cost carrier Wizz Air closed its base in Sarajevo earlier this month, according to local media reports. The decision was a result of the current challenging macroeconomic environment, as well as the continuing challenges in the supply chain, news provider Ekapija reported earlier, quoting a statement from the air carrier.
Wizz Air opened its base in Sarajevo in May 2021.
Passenger numbers at Sarajevo International Airport surged to 1.24 million in the first ten months of 2022, compared with 634,945 passengers served in the like period a year earlier, the latest data by the airport operator showed.
