August 9 (SeeNews) - Bosnia's Sarajevo International Airport closed last year with an estimated loss of 10.2 million marka ($6.1 million/5.2 million euro) due to the coronavirus pandemic, local media reported.
The airport served less than 250,000 passengers in 2020, after handling over a million travellers in 2019, Alan Bajic, director at Sarajevo International Airport, said in an interview for news portal Klix published on Saturday.
The airport expects to return to the pre-pandemic level of activity in 2023, Bajic said.
The airport is also building a new terminal, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2021, the director added.
A total of 23 airlines operate flights to 30 destinations from Sarajevo International Airport. In May, Hungarian low-cost carrier Wizz Air opened a new base at the airport.
Last year, the airport closed due to the coronavirus pandemic on March 30 and resumed international operations on June 1.
