March 29 (SeeNews) - French building materials group Saint-Gobain said on Thursday it plans to modernize and expand the stonewool production line at its Isover plant in Ploiesti, in southern Romania.
The upgrade works will enable the company to increase production capacity to 30,000 tonnes a year and thus to meet rising demand for mineral insulation products in Southeast Europe, Saint-Gobain said in a press release.
The modernized stonewool production line is due to start operating in the second half of 2019.
Saint-Gobain's Ploiesti plant has been operating since 1997. Currently, the plant's glass wool production line is being modernized too.
At the end of 2016, Saint-Gobain acquired Romanian glass processing and production company Pietta Glass Working for an undisclosed sum.
At the beginning of 2106, Saint-Gobain suspended indefinitely fiberglass mineral wool production at its factory in Ploiesti due to oversupply.
Saint Gobain Group operates in 66 countries and has over 170,000 employees. In Romania, the company has some 800 employees working in 10 production sites located in Brasov, Branesti, Calarasi, Ploiesti, Satu-Mare, Tulcea, Turda and Suceava.
