February 26 (SeeNews) - Russian railway infrastructure engineering company RZD International has started preliminary work on the construction of an Integrated Traffic Control Center (ITTC) in Serbia, the company said.
A working group of Russian and Serbian experts is conducting surveys to establish the current state of the Serbian railway infrastructure and prepare precise technical and commercial offers for the establishment of the ITTC, RZD International said in a statement on Monday.
The ITTC will allow for the integration of new railway traffic management technologies and constant monitoring of train traffic, increase the throughput capacity, optimise operation costs and raise transportation safety level on the Pan-European Corridors X and XI, RZD International said.
The project will include the installation of interlocking control systems, power devices dispatching, construction of infrastructure, creation of automated and computer systems, equipment supply, installation of technical safety facilities and creating the conditions for diagnosing the rolling stock whilst underway.
The construction of the ITTC is expected to be completed in 2021, infrastructure minister Zorana Mihajlovic said last month.
In January, state-owned railway infrastructure company Infrastruktura Zeleznice Srbije signed a 230 million euro ($261.4 million) deal for expansion and modernisation of the railway network with RZD International. The deal between envisages the design and implementation of three projects - electrification of the Stara Pazova - Novi Sad railway section, construction of the ITTC, as well as continuing with the overhaul of the section from Valjevo to Uzice, part of the railway line linking Belgrade to the Montenegrin port of Bar.
