October 30 (SeeNews) - Russian railway infrastructure engineering company RZD International has started the construction of a viaduct on a railway line in Serbia linking Stara Pazova to Novi Sad, the company said on Tuesday.
The construction works will last one year and a half and after their completion passenger trains will be able to travel at a speed of up to 200 km/h on the section, RZD International said in a statement.
The viaduct is located near the Beska railway station in northern Serbia, RZD International said.
Serbia's government in November it agreed 247.9 million euro ($281.6 million) financing for the project for reconstruction of Stara Pazova-Novi Sad railway section of the Belgrade-Budapest line on Serbian territory with RZD International.
The financing will come from the proceeds of a $800 million loan extended by Russia to Serbia's state-run railway operator Zeleznice Srbije in January 2013.
