May 29 (SeeNews) - Russian railway infrastructure engineering company RZD International has completed the installation of piers of a viaduct in the Danube river floodplain in Serbia, it said.
The viaduct construction project, completed at 60%, is part of the overhaul of the railway line linking Belgrade to Hungary's capital Budapest, RZD International said in a statement on Tuesday.
A total of 1,450 bored piles were installed for the construction of the footings of the 59 bearing points, while the company has also finished the works on 20 landslide protection structures and has begun building the spans between the piers.
The viaduct reaches 3 km in length, and some piers are higher than a seven-storey building, the Russian company said.
RZD International is carrying out construction and reconstruction works of the Stara Pazova-Novi Sad section of the railway line.
