April 6 (SeeNews) - Russian railway infrastructure engineering company RZD International completed the first phase of the breakthrough of the Cortanovci railway tunnel in Serbia, the company said.
The company completed the right tube of the 2.2 km-long Cortanovci tunnel, part of the Stara Pazova-Novi Sad section of the railway line linking Serbia's capital Belgrade to Budapest in Hungary, RZD International said in a statement on Friday.
A breakthrough of the left tube of the tunnel is planned for June and the entire construction of the facility will be completed in November 2021, RZD International said.
Despite the difficult epidemiological situation, the company continues work on all sites in Serbia, the director of the Serbian unit of RZD International, Sergey Stolyarov, noted, adding that all necessary measures have been taken to prevent the spread of the coronavirus epidemic and protect employees.
In Cortanovci, RZD International is also building a 3 km two-lane railway viaduct. To date, all 103 pillars and 90 of 118 spans have been completed. The viaduct construction is currently completed at 91%, the company added.
Serbia's government agreed in November 2017 a 247.9 million euro ($268.1 million) financing for the project for reconstruction of Stara Pazova-Novi Sad railway section of the Belgrade-Budapest line on Serbian territory with RZD International.
