August 12 (SeeNews) - Russian railway infrastructure engineering company RZD International has completed about 70% of the works on project for construction of a railway viaduct in the Danube river floodplain in Serbia, it said.
The installation of all the piers, as well as 10 spans between the piers on the viaduct, has been finished, RZD International said in a press release on Friday.
In addition, works on over half of the length of the Chortanovci railway tunnel have been completed
A total of 706 workers and 137 units of construction and track machinery are involved in the construction works, RZD International said.
"This is a symbol of success, especially for citizens who will use this railway. This will change the face of Serbia," Serbian president Aleksandar Vucic said during a visit to the construction site on Friday, according to the press release
RZD International is carrying out construction and reconstruction works of the Stara Pazova-Novi Sad section of the railway line linking Belgrade to Hungary's capital Budapest. The total cost of the works, scheduled for completion in 2021, is about $338 million (302.4 million euro).
