December 12 (SeeNews) - Rusatom Service, part of Russian state-owned nuclear group Rosatom, said on Monday it has delivered a new stator, rotor and additional equipment for the turbine generator of the 1,000 MW Unit 5 of Bulgaria's sole nuclear power plant (NPP) Kozloduy.
The new equipment aims to increase to 1,100 MW the thermal capacity of the reactor, Rusatom Service said in a press release.
Rusatom Service delivered the equipment on December, 2 two months ahead of schedule.
"Currently the equipment is passing through entry control and it is expected to be installed at Unit 5 during the unit's planned overhaul in April 2017," Rusatom Service added.
In September, NPP Kozloduy and Rusatom Service signed a contract for the upgrade of the turbine generator of Unit 5.
In October, Kozloduy shut down its 1,000 MW Unit 6 for maintenance which included modernization of the separators of the unit's steam generators, aiming to increase the thermal capacity of Unit 6 to 104%.
Kozloduy NPP remained with two operational units - Units 5 and 6 - of 1,000 MW each after the country closed down four units of 440 MW each to address nuclear safety concerns of the European Union prior to its accession to the bloc. Bulgaria joined the EU in 2007.
