May 10 (SeeNews) - Romania's trade deficit rose by 1.83 billion euro year-on-year in the first three months of 2022 to an estimated 7.2 billion euro ($7.6 billion), the country's statistical office, INS, said on Tuesday.
Exports rose by an annual 24.4% and imports increased by 26.7% on the year in January-March, INS said in a statement.
The European Union absorbed 72.9% of Romania's exports in the period under review, and accounted for 71.7% of the country's imports.
Machinery and transport equipment accounted for 42.9% of Romanian exports and 32.7% of imports, while other manufactured goods made up 30.9% of exports and 28.9% of imports during the first three months of 2022.
Romania's trade gap widened by 29% on the year to an estimated 23.7 billion euro in 2021.
