March 7 (SeeNews) - Romanian flag carrier Tarom said on Thursday its turnover rose by an annual 25% in January to 76 million lei ($18 million/16 million euro), whereas the number of passengers transported by the airline increased by an annual 17%.
"The figures show a continuation of an upward trend for our company that started last year," the company said in a press release.
Tarom's net loss narrowed to 130 million lei in 2018 from 170 million lei in the previous year, while turnover rose by 21% on the year to 1.4 billion lei, preliminary data from the transport ministry showed.
Last month, Tarom announced it will reintroduce direct flights from Bucharest to the Egyptian capital Cairo, starting April 3.
In January, Romania's government said the Control Body with the Prime Minister will look into the sale of two aircraft by Tarom in 2018 to establish if they complied with the legal provisions on the company's organisation and operation. Tarom sold two Airbus A310 aircraft to Armenia Airways Aircompany for $5.48 million (4.8 million euro) in June.
Tarom is operating on international and domestic routes with a fleet of 25 aircraft.
