July 16 (SeeNews) - US aerospace company Boeing said on Monday it has signed a $586 million (504 million euro) order for five 737 MAX 8 airplanes with Romanian flag carrier Tarom.
Tarom will also purchase a landing gear exchange programme from Boeing Global Services along with an online technical documentation management solution which will help engineering and maintenance crews to efficiently perform and record repairs, Boeing said in a statement.
"The 737 MAX will provide our customers with exceptional performance, reliability and efficiency, with an extended range that will enable us to better serve our current routes and open new markets. This new acquisition represents a true statement of change for Tarom," Wilhelm-Werner Wolff, CEO of Tarom, said.
The 737 MAX is the fastest-selling airplane in Boeing history with more than 4,600 orders from 100 customers worldwide.
"When combined with support from our Boeing Global Services team, the MAX 8 will enable Tarom to offer a consistent and exceptional passenger experience while maximizing revenue potential at the best cost per seat in the industry," Boeing's senior vice president of commercial sales and marketing Ihssane Mounir said.
In June, Tarom said it has sold two Airbus A310 aircraft to Armenia Airways Aircompany for $5.48 million.
Tarom is currently operating on international and domestic routes with a fleet of 25 aircraft.
In March, the company said it expects to post a slim profit in 2018 following 10 straight years of financial loss.
