August 23 (SeeNews) - Romanian oil and gas group OMV Petrom [BSE:SNP] and PVC pipes manufacturer TeraPlast [BSE:TRP] will be included in FTSE indices dedicated to emerging markets starting September 20, the Bucharest Stock Exchange, BVB, said on Monday.
The inclusion of the two companies in the FTSE Global Equity Index Series will strengthen Romania's weight in the global provider indices, the bourse said in a press release.
"It is the result of our continuous effort to improve our operational and financial performance and to increase transparency at our company," OMV Petrom CFO and member of the executive board Alina Popa said. With the inclusion in these indices, OMV Petrom's shares are expected to become even more attractive to a wider and more diversified investor base, she added.
OMV Petrom was listed on BVB in 2001 and is the largest Romanian company on Bucharest Stock Exchange, with a capitalisation of 23.7 billion lei ($5.6 billion/ 4.8 billion euro) at the end of Friday's trading session.
From now on, TeraPlast enters the radar of the largest international investors, which means even higher attractiveness and potential added value, as well as bigger international visibility for the Romanian capital market, TeraPlast CEO Alexandru Stanean said.
TeraPlast was listed in 2008, and at the end of Friday's trading session had a capitalisation of 1.7 billion lei.
The two companies' inclusion in the FTSE indices follows a six-month review by the global index provider.
Apart from OMV Petrom and TeraPlast, Romania has three more companies present in the FTSE indices: lender Banca Transilvania [BSE:TLV], nuclear power plant operator Nuclearelectrica [BSE:SNN], and IT group Bittnet [BSE:BNET].
The Bucharest Stock Exchange was included in the FTSE Russell emerging market indices in September 2020.
