April 4 (SeeNews) - Nuclearelectrica [BSE:SNN], the operator of Romania's sole nuclear power plant Cernavoda, said it plans to sign a preliminary agreement with China General Nuclear Power Corporation and CGN Central and Eastern Europe Investment regarding the construction of units 3 and 4 at Cernavoda.
On April 10, Nuclearelectrica shareholders will vote on the proposal made by the plant's majority owner - the energy ministry, the company said in a bourse filing last week.
Nuclearelectrica is also seeking approval to set up a subsidiary in relation to its agreement with China General Nuclear Power Corporation, which would likely be a joint venture, which will operate the project for construction of units 3 and 4.
The Cernavoda plant, located in southeastern Romania, currently has two units of 700 megawatts each, which meet roughly a fifth of the country's electricity needs.
