November 12 (SeeNews) - Nuclearelectrica, the operator of Romania's sole nuclear power plant (NPP) Cernavoda, said on Friday that its net profit rose 34.1% on the year to 640.6 million lei ($148 million/129 million euro) in the first nine months of 2021.
Operating profit grew by 23.8% year-on-year to 1.17 billion lei as of end-September, mainly due to an increase of operating revenues by 23%, Nuclearelectrica said in an interim financial statement filed with the Bucharest Stock Exchange, BVB.
Operating revenues expanded to 2.18 billion lei in the first nine months of 2021, mostly due to a 19.8% rise of the weighted average price of electricity sold in the review period.
Nuclearelectrica produced and delivered in the National Energy System about 7.571 million MWh of electricity during January-September, down 1.5% on the year. Electricity sales contributed 2.11 billion lei in revenue, up 22.1% year-on-year.
So far this year, Nuclearelectrica has spent 56.2% of its 433.9 million lei investment budget for 2021, according to the financial statement.
In 2020, Nuclearelectrica booked a net profit of 684.7 million lei, up 27.8% on the year.
The Cernavoda plant, located in southeastern Romania, has two reactors of 700 megawatts each. The electricity they generate is enough to meet roughly a fifth of the country's electricity needs.
