February 16 (SeeNews) - Nuclearelectrica, the operator of Romania's sole nuclear power plant Cernavoda, has said its net profit leapt to 303 million lei ($81 million/65 million euro) last year, driven by higher electricity sales.
The net profit of Nuclearelectrica totalled 111 million lei in 2016.
The company's operating revenue rose by an annual 15.1% to 1.89 billion lei in 2017, it said in a statement filed with the Bucharest Stock Exchange, BVB.
Nuclearelectrica's electricity sales generated revenues of 1.88 billion lei in 2017, up 16.3% year-on-year.
Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) increased by an annual 37.9% to 858 million lei in 2017.
The Cernavoda power plant, located in southeastern Romania, has two units of 700 megawatts each, which cover roughly a fifth of the country's power needs.
Nuclearelectrica shares traded 0.72% lower at 8.28 lei by 1626 CET on Friday on the BVB.
Romania's energy ministry holds a 82.49% stake in Nuclearelectrica.
