December 11 (SeeNews) - Romanian nuclear power plant operator Nuclearelectrica [BSE:SNN] said on Wednesday it will shut down one of the two reactors at the country's sole nuclear power plant Cernavoda on December 12.
The company will start procedures for disconnecting Unit 2 from the grid at 1200 local time in order to carry out repair works on its equipment. The repairs are aimed at ensuring the optimal and continuous operation of the plant, Nuclearelectrica said in a statement.
The intervention will be carried out without affecting the safety of the plant's staff, the population or the environment, it added.
The plant in Cernavoda, in southeastern Romania, operates two reactors of 700 megawatts each, which cover around one fifth of Romania's electricity consumption.
