November 14 (SeeNews) - Romania's energy output fell by 0.9% year-on-year in the first nine months of 2018, the statistical office, INS, said.
Romania's January-September energy production totalled 15.6 million tonnes of oil equivalent (TOE), INS said in a statement on Tuesday. Energy imports amounted to 9.87 million TOE, up by 5.1% on the year.
Romania's electricity output and imports totalled 49.9 TWh in the first nine months of 2018, up by 0.1% on the year.
In January-September, thermal power plants generated some 18.9 TWh of electricity, down by 7.5% on the year, while the output of hydro power plants rose by 33.2% to 14.8 TWh.
The production of the country's sole nuclear power plant fell by 1.6% on the year to some 8.33 TWh in the review period.
Wind farms generated 4.69 TWh, down by 14.4%, and solar plants produced 1.42 TWh, 12.1% lower on the year, in the first nine months of 2018.
Final electricity consumption rose by an annual 1.9% to 41.4 TWh during the period under review.
Romania’s electricity exports fell by 14.5% year-on-year to 4.34 TWh through September.
The country produced 2.52 million TOE of crude oil, down 1.9% on the year, and 3.09 million TOE of coal, down by 11.1%, in the first nine months of 2018. Natural gas production rose 1.5% year-on-year, reaching 6.19 million TOE.
In 2017, Romania's energy production rose by 4% to 21.30 million TOE.
A TOE is the rounded-off amount of energy that would be produced by burning one metric tonne of crude oil.
