March 6 (SeeNews) - Romania's retail sales rose by a seasonally and working-day adjusted 5.3% year-on-year in January, the national statistical office said on Modnay.
Sales of food, beverages and tobacco increased by an annual 4.8% during January, non-food sales rose 8.3% and sales of fuels were down 0.5%, the statistical office, INS, said in a statement.
Based on unadjusted data, retail sales climbed 5.7% on the year in January.
As against the previous month, the adjusted retail turnover volume in January increased by 0.7% due to higher sales of food, beverages and tobacco (+3.2%) and non-food products (+3.0%). The sales of automotive fuel in specialised stores dropped by 8.3% month-on-month. The figures do not include trade in motor vehicles and motorcycles.
