December 13 (SeeNews) - Romania's energy output rose by an annual 2.9% in the first ten months of the year, the statistical office, INS, said on Monday.
Romania's January-October energy production totalled 15.44 million tonnes of oil equivalent (TOE), INS said in a statement. Imports amounted to 12.44 million TOE, up 14.1% on the year.
Romania's electricity output and imports totalled 55.5 TWh in January-October, up 6.5% on the year.
During the first ten months of 2021, thermal power plants generated some 17.99 TWh of electricity, up 11.4% on the year, while the output of hydroelectric power stations jumped by an annual 17.5% to 15.13 TWh.
The production of the country's sole nuclear power plant fell 1.7% on the year to some 9.24 TWh in January-October.
Wind farms generated 5.15 TWh, down by an annual 10.9%, and solar plants produced 1.58 TWh, down 1% on the year, in January-October.
Final electricity consumption rose by an annual 5.3% to 46.1 TWh.
Romania’s electricity exports jumped by an annual 22.2% to 4.99 TWh in January-October, while imports rose 1.9% on the year to 6.42 TWh.
The country produced 2.59 million TOE of crude oil, down 0.9% on the year, and 2.69 million TOE of coal, up 18.6%, during the first ten months of 2021. Natural gas production edged up 0.4% year-on-year, reaching 6 million TOE.
Romania's energy production fell 9.8% year-on-year to 17.98 million tonnes of oil equivalent (TOE) in 2020.
A TOE is the rounded-off amount of energy that would be produced by burning one metric tonne of crude oil.
