December 12 (SeeNews) - Romania's energy output fell by 1% year-on-year in the first ten months of 2018, the statistical office, INS, said on Wednesday.
Romania's January-October energy production totalled 17.46 million tonnes of oil equivalent (TOE), INS said in a statement. Energy imports amounted to 11.2 million TOE, up by 6% on the year.
Romania's electricity output and imports totalled 55.5 TWh in the first ten months of 2018, flat year-on-year.
In January-October, thermal power plants generated some 21.2 TWh of electricity, down by 6.5% on the year, while the output of hydro power plants rose by 31% to 15.9 TWh.
The production of the country's sole nuclear power plant fell by 1.6% on the year to some 9.35 TWh in the review period.
Wind farms generated 5.29 TWh, down by 3.6%, and solar plants produced 1.57 TWh, 0.8% lower on the year, in the first nine months of 2018.
Final electricity consumption rose by an annual 1.8% to 46 TWh during the period under review.
Romania’s electricity exports fell by 2.6% year-on-year to 4.78 TWh through October.
The country produced 2.81 million TOE of crude oil, down 1.7% on the year, and 3.5 million TOE of coal, down by 9.6%, in the first ten months of 2018. Natural gas production rose 0.7% year-on-year, reaching 6.88 million TOE.
In 2017, Romania's energy production rose by 4% to 21.30 million TOE.
A TOE is the rounded-off amount of energy that would be produced by burning one metric tonne of crude oil.
