July 13 (SeeNews) - Romania's energy output rose by an annual 8.8% in the first five months of the year, the statistical office, INS, said on Tuesday.
Romania's January-May energy production totalled 7.876 million tonnes of oil equivalent (TOE), INS said in a statement. Imports amounted to 6.125 million TOE, up 18.8% on the year.
Romania's electricity output and imports totalled 14 TWh in January-May, up 8.8% on the year.
During the first five months of 2021, thermal power plants generated some 9.12 TWh of electricity, up 10.6% on the year, while the output of hydroelectric power stations jumped by an annual 48.6% to 8.4 TWh.
The production of the country's sole nuclear power plant fell 11.4% on the year to some 4.55 TWh in January-May.
Wind farms generated 2.96 TWh, down by an annual 17.8%, and solar plants produced 0.67 TWh, 9.4% lower on the year, in January-March.
Final electricity consumption rose by an annual 6.3% to 23.17 TWh.
Romania’s electricity exports jumped by an annual 30% to 2.9 TWh in January-May, while imports fell 2.7% on the year to 3.07 TWh.
The country produced 1.3 million TOE of crude oil, down 5.5% on the year, and 1.28 million TOE of coal, up 26%, during the first fivemonths of 2021. Natural gas production fell 1.8% year-on-year, reaching 3.13 million TOE.
Romania's energy production fell 9.8% year-on-year to 17.98 million tonnes of oil equivalent (TOE) in 2020.
A TOE is the rounded-off amount of energy that would be produced by burning one metric tonne of crude oil.
